Hmmn,

You may be a little off on your definition of cliche. Sometimes a familiar expression is not a cliche. Also if the wording in a cliche is altered slightly it is not a cliche. There's a lot of controversy and misunderstanding on this subject. Not only does a cliche have to be worded exactly, but it is also a trite expression. The best solution to help someone find a cliche is to use a 'cliche finder', or find one of the many lists of cliches found online. A cliche can be used to create a familiararity for the reader.
