This is truly a great poem. Every word is right where it needs to be, and every emotion shines through in the imagery. You said everything you needed to say with this. It invokes such sadness and rage within me. I have known so many beautiful and amazing women in my time, many of them suffering under the ignorance and cowardice of men (and women) like this who are too weak and uncaring to say what they truly feel, too short-sighted to see what they have in front of them, too stupid to know what they want. It burns me up that so many members of our species prefer to remain ignoble and dishonorable. Rather than do the right thing, they are content to hide behind their bullshit. I hope you punched him in the throat after he told you that.
