I loved this piece. I do not know whether it was intentional that you used no punctuation, but either way the piece did not suffer too much from it. The second stanza, " in hurricanes I have complimented dead actresses and played othello
with what very well may have been
ghosts or simply vacant people....," amazing use of words and great imagery. I love Othello myself, so to see it referenced so, makes my hearts' strings flutter. "I have surrendered to heavier things" is a pitch perfect title and it almost sounds like it is a nod to the John Mayer album. If it is, I must give you kudos. The end very much compliments the beginning and I truly hope you continue with your "smithing" as only a birthed writer can.

wonderful write!
