Say Uncle

Say Uncle

Sam staked his reputation,
and withdrew his piercing knives,
for the consequences of occupation
cost too many lives.
Insurgents resisted Democracy,
with those of Islamic zeal,
while Bush politicked hypocrisy,
hoping the wounds would heal.

Sam risked his world renown,
and abandoned reconstruction.
A war of attrition wore him down,
inviting self-destruction.
America subverted its Christianity,
and no one seems to care.
Iraq has lost too much humanity,
far more than Sam could bare.
