The Watcher

The Watcher

With stilled breath
and steady gaze,
he watches for
the ancient signs -
With humming ears
and quivering lips,
he listens for that
ages old song -
For in silence he waits
with an unearthly patience
for a nameless something
never seen... unheard... unknown -
With shadows behind his eyes
and a caul over his face,
he smiles into an empty sky -
While dark, oily laughter
echoes through
the cold, stagnant air.
