Like the suffering, terrified animal
caught helplessly in a steel trap,
chewing in bloody, unimaginable
desperation at its own trembling leg
in a panicky, agonized attempt to
free itself from that metallic hell,
I've been driven to my wobbly knees
in humiliating weakness, gnawing away
at my crushed, bleeding heart, in a sad,
sick struggle to break loose from the
iron trap I've allowed you to clamp
onto my panting, heaving chest:
A puny, pathetic prisoner; trapped
like that biting, gnawing, bleeding beast!
