I Grin ( Gratitude challenge poem )

I grin for joy
While the wind howls on
And the rain gushes down.
Because now, at this very moment,
The house still stands.

I grin with irony
As I crudely transcribe
My music for those
Who understand better than I.

I grin with wonder
That my seven year old granddaughter
Has lived such an eventful life
That she is nostalgic for my basement.

I grin with amazement
As my two year old grandson
And seven year old granddaughter
Form partnerships, not confrontation-ships.

I grin, with slight understanding
As I see the positive behind
Many things I once scoffed at
Like brown, tasseled wingtip shoes.

I grin with humble awe
As my wife, dead these several years,
Seems to cast her vision on things
I couldn`t see in my selfish lonesomeness.

I must have had invisible help with this. It came too fast.

Go to Stories, Art, and Songs to read Chapter 29 of JdSchooley`s Obbligato, The Verboten Wind.
