Dear Poetry Aficionados,

Poetry & Poets in Rags blog:

Our lead story this week is about 23-year-old Iraqi poet and journalist Sardasht Osman, who was abducted, tortured, and shot, apparently for a poem, a satirical piece he wrote that involved a senior member of the Iraqi Kurdistan regional government. For comprehensive coverage, we begin a clutch of three links with a translation of that poem in National Review. The second link is to the story of his killing from the NYT. The third is to the article condemning this act from Reporters Without Borders.

Our second story in News at Eleven is about Salvadoran poet Roque Dalton, who was gunned down in 1975. His family would like to know why people associated with his murder are in high governmental positions.

From there, we go to poodle poetry, and some remarkable looks at some poetry books that are out. We also celebrate the 150th birthday of the great Rabindranath Tagore. And there''s more, much more, in our Great Regulars section, not to mention the Poetic Obituaries. You''ll want to scroll through these section.

Thanks for clicking in.
