Dear Poetry Aficionados,

Poetry & Poets in Rags blog:

We begin this week with the Beats, in both the San Francisco Chronicle and the New York Times. The book that''s triggering these articles is Jack Kerouac and Allen Ginsberg: The Letters, Edited by Bill Morgan and David Stanford. There are several reviews of this important work already available on the web, and each seems to be bringing out different aspects of the time and the relationships. News of this book arrives as news of the movie Howl is brewing, which will be out this fall.

We have dozens of links that follow. Indeed, the last link in our News at Eleven section, our Back Page that is, leads to an article called Philip Larkin: Beat poet. In our Great Regulars section, we have poems by C.J. Sage and Anthony Carelli that are not to be missed. And for views on the mysteries of life, Frank Wilson takes a look at time, while Bryan Appleyard looks at "The God-shaped hole in our lives".

Heartfelt thanks to Fiona Sampson (http://ibpc.webdelsol.com/judges/fiona-sampson), who finished her spring stint as IBPC judge. Her poetry selections and commentary for June''s results (http://ibpc.webdelsol.com/2010/6) are available and well worth clicking into. Here are the links to her selections--congratulations to the poets, and the boards on which the poems were workshopped:

1st place: A lesson on multiplication, by Judy Kaber, of The Waters Poetry Workshop
2nd place (joint): history of the kite riff, by Steve Parker, of criticalpoet.org
2nd place (joint): Weasel, by Laurie Byro, of Desert Moon Review
3rd place: Glass, by David Callin, of Poets'' Graves
Runner up: After Running Over the Neighbor’s Dog, by Fred Longworth, of Wild Poetry Forum
Runner up: anorak, by Carmela Cohen, of conjunction
Runner up: Father, by Brian Lowry, of criticalpoet.org
Runner up: St. Hilda Home, by Julie Corbett, of The Write Idea
Runner up: yeah man snap snap like that, by William Dixon Smith, of Tin Roof Alley Poets

Thanks for clicking in.
