Challenge 8 - Satiated

Challenge 8 - Satiated

Behind corroding black bars,
Slowly he kneels
With aching knees,
To the cold, hard floor
Within his barren cell.
Raising his hand to God,
By the light of a single bare bulb;
Raising his eyes
to the artificial gray sky above him,
his parched lips move silently, earnestly,
in prayer.
Prayer transforms to meditation,
He is one with God,
And as the Holy Spirit
Suddenly rushes into him,
He is taken away from his cell,
From his hunger, from his loneliness,
From the cold.
Instantaneously he is filled
With the warmth of love,
The tenderness of peace.
Soon he sleeps,
No longer cold,
No longer hungry,
No longer lonely
Satiated by the Holy Spirit,
He is free again.

"The greatest warriors are the ones who stand for peace." H. Near
