I have chosen Auden's ''If I Could Tell You''.
I will allow this piece to speak for my interpretation of his work & allow you make your own assessment as to the worth of my attempt.
My hope is you enjoy.
Michael

So We May

walking today behind a man a few years ahead
I observed arms well beyond his waist descend
which suggests perhaps his shoulders one day
walked much closer sunshine seemed his friend

so very cold this day in March
the choice is made by daffodils their heads to bow
as if in prayer they know it is
Dominion day they must observe somehow

simple recognitions should a question raise
so we may deliberate
opening knowledge in answer abundance
so we may appreciate

the man with age stooped, arms now closely reach
the very ground they someday soon will surely breech

as this day ends a warmer breeze may Monday see
again these flowers golden will arise to better be

simple recognitions should a question raise
so we may deliberate
opening knowledge in answer abundance
so we may appreciate

If I Could Tell You
W. H. Auden

Time will say nothing but I told you so,
Time only knows the price we have to pay;
If I could tell you I would let you know.

If we should weep when clowns put on their show,
If we should stumble when musicians play,
Time will say nothing but I told you so.

There are no fortunes to be told, although,
Because I love you more than I can say,
If I could tell you I would let you know.

The winds must come from somewhere when they blow,
There must be reasons why the leaves decay;
Time will say nothing but I told you so.

Perhaps the roses really want to grow,
The vision seriously intends to stay;
If I could tell you I would let you know.

Suppose all the lions get up and go,
And all the brooks and soldiers run away;
Will Time say nothing but I told you so?
If I could tell you I would let you know.
