Schizophrenia

Schizophrenia

Voices bombard him,
Though the room is silent.
He fidgets in his chair,
Tongue twisting
As he softly mumbles
Back to them.
His eyes stare
Wide and fearful,
Chemicals gone awry,
As if he stares at Satan himself.
I tried to speak to him,
But his ears were deaf to me.
Too much noise fills his head.
People stare
With a scornful look,
Moving as far away as they can.
No one knows,
That before it hit,
He was brilliant,
Talented,
A grade A student,
All they know is,
They’d prefer he wasn’t around.

"The greatest warriors are the ones who stand for peace." H. Near
