Painted on Makeup (Challenge 15)

Painted on Makeup (Challenge 15)

She paints on her make-up,
Like a clown,
Trying to hide his sadness.
A Pagliacci of sorts,
She is.
“Makeup makes the girl!” she says,
But she can’t paint makeup
Upon her soul.
Inside her heart,
She is colorless and drab,
A sadness,
That though she tries,
With pretty colors,
Won’t disappear,
With makeup.
Day by day,
She puts on more and more makeup,
Trying to appease
The ever increasing pain inside.
But to no avail.
Then one sleepless night,
Something cracked and broke,
Realizing that makeup won’t heal
The grueling pain within,
In shock, and now hopeless,
She took a razor,
And painted a pretty red line
Up the length of her arm.
Maybe still, she’d be pleased to know,
They made her up
Real pretty
In her coffin.
