For My Brother Paul (Challenge 18)

For My Brother Paul (Challenge 18)

He refuses to be a stereotype,
He just wants to be himself,
Yet, faggot, fairy, queer,
Still echo in his ears,
As they try to desecrate his soul,
With ugly demeaning words.
His strong muscles,
His tattooed and pierced body,
Show nothing of the regular stereotype,
No flamboyance, no femininity here,
Yet somehow people still know,
And the words still fly.
But he is not weak in the faces.
Of those who condemn him,
He is strong,
And will look anyone in the eye,
And say,
“I am gay and I am proud”,
And he will never waiver
From those words.
I am so proud of my brother for staying so strong in the face of adversity
over so many years, and for being himself, no matter what anyone thinks or says. He is a good, strong man, and I love him dearly.

"The greatest warriors are the ones who stand for peace." H. Near
