Father's Day

Father's Day

my mother's getting older
she's been older for a while
but never brings up age
just endures it with a smile

hard work is all she does
never takes an intermission
has a chest so full of heart
she's the pistons of an engine

always worried all the time
tends to see only a mess
but keeps the house in order
with four boys very impressed

but I know that it won't last
nothing's ever here to stay
each good story has an end
time runs out for us some day

so I'll love her all I can
even though not near enough
to repay some of the debt
of what she sacrificed for us

*I didn't have much of a father
