The Ring

The Ring

Is it still on your finger? Is it starting to tarnish to a dull grey?

Did you put it in some little box for safe keeping? Do you ever look at it? Do you ever think about it (us)?

Did you hawk it at some pawn shop somewhere? Did it matter to you, or bother you at all at the time? Did you hesitate before handing it over?

Did you throw it in the trash? Did you toss it out with the garbage?

Did you give it away? Did you destroy it with some personal little ritual? Did you try to melt it down? Did you bury it in the ground?

Please forgive all the questions.
I'm just curious.
I sometimes wonder what became of it.
I'd like to know what you did with it.

Did you ever wonder what I did with mine?

Did it ever occur to you that perhaps I hawked, tossed, gave away, buried, or trashed mine?

Does it ever cross your mind that I think about mine (you) about as often as you think about yours (me)?

Did you ever think the subject would come up again, about something that neither one of us is supposed to give a damn about?

Is it still on your finger then? Does it really matter anymore? Is it just me being curious, or is the ring really a symbol of something (us) after all?
