An Exception

An Exception

Nights autonomy presses into me
monotonously until I cry red tears
for love
and day tears the life from me
to find your shadow is a comfort
but I could never doubt myself more
in it

And I know it loves me more than you, too

Loves me enough to rest upon my shoulder
like the hug I could never wrest from you

You have your cross
We all do
but your policy is a bewilderment
when your eyes tell a truth
your heart will not let your lips speak
when boldness is a dare

Talk true to me

Let down your wall
Open the iron-gate

The watchmen will tend the dogs
You are stronger than fragile
but still delicate and alone

You will find the end of the road with me
but I will open a path for you

And the stream in which we bathe
will be our matrimony
to form a nest
to form a union
to break the chain
that is binding you
to break the demons
that are binding me
