The Girl in the Cowboy Hat

The Girl in the Cowboy Hat

If I ever saw you
in a more beautiful light
I do not remember

Though I think I never saw you before
I was taken

Taken to the street to be beaten
like a guerilla by a jealous hand

Your soft calm approach
and the devil of your touch
that I dreamed as blood ran
from all the new holes
punched into my body

You were the blunt object of beauty
that beat me to death
but you wet the dryness of my lips
as I was dying in front of you

The crossroads
and river I needed to cross
for shelter from the season

You were the depths
of the Atlantis
that I lost

Stars still twinkle
The moon still shines
but the only luster I have left
is the note
that I might ever see you again

My once proud hands
never ragged and gnarled
and always wrapped
around a bottle of dementia

Diamonds, Rubies, Emeralds
The dull rocks that you cherish
but what I had for you
was deeper than all that

Something so precious
like a life we could share
but in these days sincerity
is a lost art

So I built for you an ark
that I could not fill
and the pain of the black letter
of monogamy was branded into my chest

Then to arms against the storm
and the whole mutiny began

Your eyes were the first viscous
daggers that sunk into me

And what you left unsaid
was deadly as a viper

Your eyes told your lips
to say goodbye quietly
to sneak out but leave an opening

And your lips left without a word

But if I find you again
If I build for you a tomorrow
will you listen

Because when I walked into the moonlight
in the soft twilight air that night
you were gone

hit me up on Facebook.
