The One Who Stays

The One Who Stays

One by one they all leave; vanishing from her fragile life.

They come to her, bringing their plastic promises, their tinsel smiles, and their cellophane dreams.
They stay for a season, giving only as much as their self-absorbed egos allow. Never permitting anything more than a perfumed bouquet, or a lacy valentine to symbolize the infatuation and lust they artfully disguise as love.

One by one they all leave; vanishing from her fragile life.

All but one; the one whose promises are hewn from gold, whose smile emanates from his silver soul, whose dreams are of mist-shrouded castles, lush green fields, and 2 lovers under the shade of an old oak tree, entwined in rapture.

One by one they all leave; vanishing from her fragile life.

All but one; the one who has given her his genuine, yet equally fragile heart for her to cherish, to keep safe and warm.

He is the one who stays.
