Oh Changeling Muse

Oh Changeling Muse

Oh wondrous muse,
How you enthuse and infuse
With joy and beauty
Always, like it''s your duty.
Words of cheer and love and praise
Flow even on the dimmest days.
They are bountiful and true,
Inspired by a love of you.

But, at once, your form does alter,
Loyalty, devotion falter.
With your sordid tongue of fire
And wicked wandering desire,
The poet''s righteous heart is slain;
Tattered, shattered, shards remain.

Oh hateful muse,
How you refuse and abuse
Life''s greatest, cruellest gift.
The veil you once dropped will lift,
And solemn darkness in its place
Will light humanity''s true face.

In festering lament I''ll stew,
Inspired by a love of you.

But I''ll adore you through the pain,
''Til like a phoenix, we rise again.
