|Into Your Eyes
By EnigmaticArcanum on 11/11/2012
Evening''s hush touches my ears
Whispering softly in twilight tones,
Tugging insistently at my senses
Penetrating down to my bones.
Of day''s ending it slowly speaks
And tells of the darkness drawn nigh,
Cloaking the sadness and painful despair,
Concealing the tear that rolls from my eye.
The blackness, it creeps ever nearer
Stretching out its smothering hand,
Stealing away the light that once was
Removing all trace from the land.
Pulled down to the depths
I gasp and struggle in vain,
Searching frantically for any relief
From the turmoil wracking my brain.
Sinking, I hold my breath, and wait
For the rescue that never arrived.
My dreams, my hopes, my vision
Seem now to have all been contrived.
Unable to see, the lights now have gone
I hang my head and start to weep.
At last I give in to the night
And close my weary eyes in sleep.
In dreamless slumber I lay alone
Cold, numbing ache lies deep within.
Time passes in slow agonizing ticks
As though time''s hands are reluctant to spin.
And yet in the blackness of this abyss,
In a mind''s dim corner a thought refuses to yield.
Just a tiny suggestion, that night has an end,
A faint hope''s power is clearly revealed.
An unexpected flicker dances briefly ''cross my eyes
As the darkness is weakened, pushed firmly aside,
Cast off, discarded, to make room in my soul
For a joy that is growing and won''t be denied.
My spirit breathes freely, securely caressed
By a peace I''ve not felt in a while.
I sense your warmth, your gentle touch;
I look up into your eyes, and smile.
