Her Eyes Implied Defensive Indifference

Her Eyes Implied Defensive Indifference

I saw her yesterday:

Like an unpredictable earthquake, my world began to shake,
as she suddenly leaped back into my lonely existence
from out of the dark-blue emptiness of nowhere.

Like a wary, defensive animal, she darted her eyes
in every direction, soaking up all that surrounded her,
except me, standing directly in view of her wide, scanning eyes.

Like a mute, ancient, solitary tree at the side of the road,
overlooking a fiery, blood-soaked, deadly head-on collision,
I seemed of no concern to her indifferent, self-absorbed,
flighty mind. Her defenses were raised like a red battle-flag,
while my racing heart sank like the shiny grey stone,
plummeting down to the bottom of a cold, black pond.

I saw her yesterday:

My mind was craving and longing for friendly acknowledgment,
but her eyes were implying nothing but defensive indifference.
