The Blue Urn

The Blue Urn

I scan the dusty archives of my mind,
to gaze in semisweet nostalgic wonder
at the gallery of all the lost naive schemes
we dreamed in those rosy days of our beginning.

The bold, thunderous plans of brazen youth,
which we sang out in a bright, ringing melody,
and with a banging, booming, insistent rhythm,
are cold dead ashes in a royal blue urn,
buried in the ground, three thousand miles away.

I stare at the aging, fading old photographs
of two smiling young, optimistic dreamers,
with their eyes riveted to a shining golden future,
and their heads floating among the wispy white clouds.

The rainbow fantasies of sharp energetic youth,
which we painted across the vast dome of the sky,
and echoed through the black starry heavens,
are powdered grey ashes in a sky blue urn,
lying beneath the Earth, three thousand miles away.
