Memory vs. Reality

Memory vs. Reality

I wonder if you''re as perfect
As I remember you to be.
The years apart have served you well
In my memory.
You were twenty one that year
And I was seventeen.
I was so young and you were the one,
Everything I wanted love to be.
But you never knew, did you?
And the days dwindled down.
After that night, I realized,
You had already left town.
But what a night it was!
Filled with music, coffee, and you.
Before you left, you kissed me that once,
That''s how I knew it was true.
It was so long ago, but I remember so clear
The smell upon your shirt.
The blue of your eyes, the dreary night skies,
The smile you had when you would flirt...
Yeah, my memory paints the most beautiful scene,
But now I wonder if it were real.
If I ever saw you again, would it be like then?
Would I love you still?
