I'm Not Him

I'm Not Him

He could send you to the moon
with his clear, twinkling eyes,
and his sparkling, entrancing smile.
He could capture your romantic spirit
with his musical, hypnotic voice,
and his charismatic, boyish charm.
He could melt your passionate heart
with his breathtakingly handsome face,
and his hard, chiseled, Adonis body.

He's gone from your life now,
and here am I, by your side.
But... I'm not him.

I can't jettison you into some kind of orbit,
for my eyes are a dull, ageing green,
and my smile features a nasty gap in the front.
I can't hold, or even catch your winsome soul,
for my voice is an all-too-human, everyday tone,
and my ways are devoid of any Pied Piper magic.
I can't absorb your desires, nor fizzle your will,
for my face is of the common, forgettable style,
and my body is still lean and firm, but the gravity-sag
of the long years is beginning to take its natural toll.

He's departed from your existence forever,
and I can offer you myself and my love.
But... I'm not him.
