Evening Prayer

Take me, Morpheus!
Hurl me into that thick, hazy, wispy, ephemeral
realm of black, empty abandon.
Rescue me from this bright, noisy world,
and send me to that silent land of peaceful repose.
All through my long, weary, sweat and grime filled day
you've been whispering your sweet temptations
in my ear, penetrating my pounding skull,
and tickling my hot, buzzing brain
with magical promises of deliverance.
Take me, Morpheus!
Let me plunge into your still, dark waters,
and let me float on that serene sea:
For my head is on fire and my heart
is a thumping, banging machine of pain!
I need to escape... I must get away...
Away from those chest squeezing,
leg trembling, teeth grinding, mind numbing
feelings of unendurable longing!
Longing for her.
So take me, Morpheus!
I surrender my soul to your gentle embrace.
Let me slide into slumber.
Open the door, and watch me drop through.
Rock me to sleep, O god of unconsciousness.
I have but one tiny request:
Let not the one I desire with sick addiction
enter my sweet, quiet, breezy dreams.
I implore you: Allow me but seven hours of solitude,
until that moment it begins again...
that burning, raging flame of desire:
That longing... for her!
