Fooled again.

Fooled again.

She passed me by
throwing me the crumbs of a smile
no sign of love
she swore would last forever
some time ago we were kissing
now we are passing.

I know what she feels like
under jeans and anorak
and I am known to her,
knowing her kiss
I see us both writhing
reaching for the stars
arriving together in sweat sodden sheets.

I meant what I said
she never did I'm sure,
I fooled myself
she fooled me
her words were honey
down they went
warming me up
on the coldest of days.

We parted,
I've given up sugar
now I take my words plain,
bland but digestible,
she carved me a deep cynical notch
adding to my ever growing collection.
