In the midst of the summer
my mind drifts back to winter,
on a cold dark January evening
as I kissed her goodbye and she
drove away into the icy night.
In the midst of the summer
my heart floats back to winter,
for how could I have ever known
that I was watching her drive off
into a new life and leaving me
to stand in the frigid January air,
paralyzed with frozen loneliness.
