Eyes On the Moon

Eyes On the Moon

He stood alone in the dark,
while the cool damp fog
of the chill autumn evening
began to swirl about him like
a wispy web of white satin.
His eyes were locked on the
full harvest moon, as the stars
popped into the black dome
of the sky, and the crickets
chirped out a melancholy tune
of lonely longing in the night.
He stood gazing at the moon,
knowing that somewhere far
away across the empty miles,
she stood alone in the dark,
her eyes locked on the moon.
