That Moment

That Moment

The gravelly crunch of the driveway
under my feet as I walk slowly away
from her in a foggy grey haze that
wisps around my blazing head with
a moist chill that cannot cool the fire
raging inside my skull, as I move one
numb trembling foot after the other,
each step sending me farther away
from her side, and closer to that
thick pain-riddled moment of truth:
I'll never look into her eyes again.
