Ours is the Night

Ours is the Night

Let them have the daytime
with its eye-burning sunlight
and ear-piercing birdsong.
Let them have the daytime
with its busy, nosy bustle
and loud, obnoxious noise.
Let them have the daytime
with its harsh, hard outlines
and barking, banging sounds.
Ours is the night,
amidst silent stars speckled across
the black canvas sky with pin-point
crystal sparkle and the pale white
moon with its ghostly glow,
casting subtle shadows of grey
from the silhouettes of trees
gently swaying in the cool
evening breeze, while we stand
in the stillness of the unseen
garden in a quiet, dark embrace.
