I don't think I can control the beating in my chest
I haven't even seen you yet but I feel I gotta rest
I'm breathing heavy and nervous like I'm taking a test
I can't get you out of my head like it's stuck in a crest

And although what I feel is perfectly natural
I hate to admit that we may not be compatible

You are younger and inexperienced and it's not your fault
I am older and full of baggage that I hide inside my vault
If you only knew how easy it would be to just default
And give in to this feeling inside of me as a result

And although if I kiss you and taste your lips on mine
I can't promise that it would happen again a second time

We have spoken face to face about each other's lives
And laughed hard at stories we told from our past times
We dined together, party together, many, many nights
But when it's time to go home I want to scream for reprise

And although we may both one day want to risk it all
I fear the best for me would be to stay away and recall
