Through the Darkness

Through the Darkness

The cold darkness of night
seems to cover my eyes
like a thick black shroud
as I lie trembling and alone.
Then comes a whisper
like the gentle caress of
a soft cloud descending
from a sweet blue sky.
("I am here"
"I am near you")
"Always with you")
The ebony chill of evening
presses down on my body
like a black sheet of iron
as I stare into the silence.
Then comes the wave of joy
and the rush of warmth,
for the memory of her smile
penetrates the still darkness
and the remembrance
of her melodious song
fills my ears with peace.
