The River

The River

How do I cross the river?
For the currents are strong,
the waters rage and that
river is oh so deep and wide.
Will she hold onto my hand?
For I tremble with fear,
my heart bangs in my chest
and the sweat pours out
of my pale, sick body.
How will I ford the river?
For the white waters roar,
the waves ripple and crash
and the river foams with anger.
