Man of Dirt (Woman of Steel)

Man of Dirt (Woman of Steel)

Born from the dust
and nurtured in the mud,
he plods along with feet
too battered to feel the
sharp rocks beneath and
skin too weathered to
feel the cold rain as it
pelts him with wet sheets
of merciless frigidity.
Ripped from the ground
and swaddled with weeds,
his eyes won't cry from the
sight of her vile betrayal
and his heart will beat on,
though she tore it from his
chest and crushed it to pulp,
the smile never leaving her
cold, grey steel lips as
her rusty laughter filled his
dirt-filled, unhearing ears.
