Trials of Love

He glides playfully through the air on wings of white,
A child of heavenly beauty and mischievousness,
Armed with a quiver of arrowed desires, of love he ignites.
Gift with a silver bow was bestowed by his mother, the love goddess Venus.

Cupid is his name, the celestial deity of love.
Into the hearts of gods and men, he fires his arrows of passion.
With locks of golden curls, as if spun from gold, and a face of a cherub.
He also possesses arrows, which could inflict the victims to spurn the advances of amorous affection.

Though he be the purveyor of l'amour, immune to its effect Cupid was not.
Despite the mandate of his mother, fallen in love with one of his intended he did.
Jealous of her beauty, she did order her child to make the victim love another of repulsive sight.
Disregard of his parent's command, he whisked Psyche away to a place, from wandering eyes he hid.

One wish Cupid did require of his beloved was to never look at his demeanor when he comes to her.
Overcome with curiosity as to the identity of her savior and love, Psyche disobeys and he leaves.
Wandering the world, she searches for her paramour and finds Venus instead, his mother.
Assigned many tasks to win her favour, she did with resolve, dedication, and tears.

Through many tribulations, Psyche survived for the sight of Cupid again.
Finally her prayers were answered by the sky god Jupiter and immortality was granted to the woman.
With a quiet defeat, Venus acknowledges the love between her son and her ire's victim.
A marriage was inevitably celebrated between the two immortals in holy union.

The journeys of Psyche signify the power of love and are a testimony to the human spirit.
Through many trials, a soul must endure and remain steadfast to attain true love.
Cupid hears the hearts of many, whether consciously or subconsciously it be.
Love requires effort and commitment for it to blossom between two people and progress into a truly spectacular occasion from above.
