The Act of Letting Go

The Act of Letting Go

You washed clean away,

From me like the rain.

My brain let you go,

But my heart still remained.

And you spread your wings,

Because I set you free.

Then you flew away,

Without looking back at me.

I knew you were gone,

Never to return.

So I held back the tears,

And swallowed the burn.

I had nothing but memories,

Pedals in the wind.

A gentle whisper to the ear,

A slight touch to the skin.

You washed clean away,

From me like the rain.

And I let you go,

But all of this pain
