First Steps

First Steps

Little tiny baby feet
Theyre much too small to walk with me
But hes far too stubborn to give up.

His hands are wide like mine
I see them swaying frantically at his sides
His whole body shakes as he eases forward.

My little boys mouth
Is wide open, he begins to shout
I wonder suddenly how to speak infant

After a wobbly waltz
His heel lands a bit off
He falls but his eyes never leave the prize

I catch him as we both knew I would
And I give him a slice of the pizza
That he learned how to walk for.
