It wreathes the heart
In velvet thorns
Soft enough
To kill;
Love

It coats these tired eyes
With boiling clouds
Hot enough
To freeze;
Pain

In knowing these two,
One hopes not
To caress them with
A stab wound,
Instead, to wrangle
From within
Some semblance of that
Which evades

From experience
There comes knowing
From knowing
There comes
Hope

Hope
Which leads
To climax
With which us two
Will build our future
