Finger-pointing

Finger-pointing

I guess I could blame high school, 'cause that's where we met-
He was a flirt even then and the stage was set.
Or Facebook, 'cause that's how we reconnected-
He reached out, and right away I suspected
What he was about, and that it was all wrong
For me, yet somehow I got carried along
By the new sensation; I was in denial,
But it came back to bite me after a short while.
Or I could blame him, of course, for so many things.
I felt like a puppet, with him pulling the strings.

Yet he didn't have authority over me;
I may have felt helpless, but was perfectly free.
I could've put an end to it at any time-
My desperate holding on ought to have been a crime.
I wonder if he thought me an easy mark,
That he'd effortlessly get me in the dark;
And said anybody, any body, would do...
It sure wouldn't surprise me none if it were true.
I could point the finger, but there would always be
At least three pointing accusingly back at me.
