Steak and Eggs at Three Tables Away

Steak and Eggs at Three Tables Away

As captivating as you are
at this moment I cannot comprehend
why . . . why it was you chose me

Because it was you
in the dismal shade of duskiness
that hurled two pieces of raw steel
together that created
a most extraordinary spark

Brightness had become
a strange memory
odd before you
only eclipsed rays cast from faraway
a pale shade of day

What it has taken
me years to realize
you have always known
Beyond you, I simply am...emptiness

No reverberation, no pen stroke
nor tapped key could express what we say
with the shimmer of our eyes

And for you these words
written on the scared head of my sledge
hammer, propelled by the same
swelled muscular arms
that wrap you up in bliss
and a promise
that I drive down into stone
       For our eternity

You will never be alone.

I dedicated this to my wife.
