The Wisteria on my Street

The Wisteria on my Street

The wisteria on my street,
all blue succulent grapes
turned to roses after a cleansing
shower of spring,
how I despise their morning glory
in spite of my despite.
Hanging from old and gnarled oaks
that neither care nor comprehend
that their beauty depends
on the wisteria they hold
just out of my reach.

The oaks will never know
how I envy them
the simplicity of certainty
in their struggle
or how I lovingly tend
in mourning glory
the wisteria
blooming in their branches.
