I know

I know

In the curling corners of a life
crumpled
I have inserted secret scriptures
of Godless philosophies.

You fail to see,
the seven pillars beyond the sea,
the rest of humanity
paying homage to our
timeless beauty,
our faultless unity,

Our sad forgotten perfection.

And I just fail.

The words
we wrought
are gold,
molten precious
moving liquid in your blood
to ebb and flow
beneath my skin.

Within the maelstrom
of your eyes
I saw redemption,
but it was tarnished thing,
a patina of rust
coating the inspiration,
the thinning metal
showing ancient disappointment
poking unrepentant
through the gaps.

Fear not,
your breath
is still
falling snow on my wrist,
the cool touch
slowing my pulse
till I am your rhythm,
a beat,
a flicker of movement
beneath your pale flesh.

And your life is prophecy,
unfulfilled,
distilled on skin,
till in clear rivulets
of passion
you run slowly away.

Oh yes,
I know,

you were always running away.
