Where My Heart Was

Where My Heart Was

Finding you, seeking you out
happened so easily for me
then we laughed, we joked, we cried, we sang
now it seems like such a dream

Time flew by
I can’t tell you why
closeness drifts away, it just does
but when I saw your face
felt your warm embrace
I was really where my heart truly was

It doesn’t matter
you may not have
thought about me much
I’ve kept this torch
stayed on the porch
kind of just let life go by and such

If I had my way
a prayer I’d say
sent on the wings of doves
“Please Lord, be fair
this burden I’ll bear
But it was where my heart truly was.”

It was in the right place from the start
my heart beat better because I met her
the only right thing that love does

We never speak
I’m much too weak
but I’m missing you today
you have no clue
how much I love you
you smile and walk away

How much I’ve give
to know you
loved me just because
I spent all that time
trying to make you mine
for when I was with you
I was always where my heart truly was
