Forsaking The Now

Forsaking The Now

For far too long chrysanthemum
bloom and wither
for far too long
springs have sprung
dappled sunlight has caressed
trees causing once in a lifetime
light, shadow, pattern along
the byways of my life
illuminating the pure, the good,
the true

Clouds formed in the sky and
inside my coffee cup while
the universe unfolded as it should
missing shooting stars, eclipse after
eclipse and meteor showers, fireworks
in the night-time sky
and in my heart
and soul

Days, weeks months passed
teasing me with their joy, sorrow,
pleasure and pain until I folded up
into myself for fear of changing
any of it

the chrysanthemum,
the spring,
the byways,
the clouds,

paved and shrouded
in good intention

springs have sprung
many songs left unsung
dying over and again
before my time
when I'm too young

forsaking the now

just to keep you alive
and keep me
reliving old springs
driving down old byways
smelling old flowers
remembering clouds
and you

all dancing their dance
in the night-time sky
and in my heart
and soul
