Everyone is Watching

Don’t coax from me the questions
To ask your troubled mind,
Looking for a past
In which to poke and prod
For answers.
I can’t help you remember
What you choose to forget
And you’re just as much a mystery
To me now than you’ve ever been.

Read into me
Like you read into him.
The subject and title have changed:
I am the fall-out,
The breakdown,
And the ending stretches on and on
In this corporate kiss.
Goodbye, don’t call
I know you never will.
Damn, it’s been so long.
I can’t get over your taste...
My hands across your stomach
Fingertips, fingertips.
Let me look at you,
And try not to be so scared.
I’m sorry that I look so scared.

Darkened eyelids
And a cooling dip.
He doesn’t know, nobody knows
And I still tell no one.
Neither do you... right.

But now you’re different-
I’m so many people but you’re the same old one-
Overdramatic and coming to a rise far too fast.
Help me help you,
And laugh in my face if you really want
To miss me like you do.
But not really.
Ho hum, it’s over.

And look at you laugh!
Through your bruises.
Me too, me too,
Addressed sincerely to the two of you.
Call me on the phone
But don’t let anyone see,
He doesn’t know, nobody knows.
And this lighter keeps it under wraps:
Heat the blade to prevent infection
And aim to cut out my heart,
But you were never a crack shot.

Hit my brain, shake my soul,
And you shatter like crystal:
So sharp, with me on your points.
People think I’ve given you
My mutation, my disease.
So what?
Look at you, you’re gone and replaced!
My indecision is still killing me.
Let’s look at this new,
With twice old sunglasses.
Don’t cry because you love me
But let me lie here with you...
Turpentine and gasoline,
Light this fire.
Then stop and watch me burn for you
To ashes that rise like nobles;
Higher mountains
To dropping lakes.
Everything is man-made,
And nobody is looking.
Close that god-damned book
And fucking look at me.
Cry for me,
Prove your love,
Because I obviously
Never could.
