The price of silence.

The price of silence.

You asked for my silence
and so I complied
The truth shut within me
I readily lied
I'd protect you with every small
breath that I take
Though falling for you was
a painful mistake
Two weeks you've been gone, and
you're not coming back
I steel my emotions
now under attack
From the thought of your fingertips
lacing through mine
And the sound of our heartbeats
in three-quarter time
I gave you too much
and I should have known then
My fantasy ended
before it began
But I fought with my demons
and kept "us" alive
Even though I knew better
I could not let you die
And now I am lost, frozen
by winter's chill
If silence can't kill me
this broken heart will-

"Count your blessings that I can''t rely on you." ~Shirley Manson
