Our Colors

Our Colors

Monday we were red.
Flaming red. Hot red.
Oh, were you angry with me.
And I couldn’t be near you.
You burned inside of me.
You lit my heart on fire.

And then on Tuesday we cried.
Blue tears.
I’m too sad to get out of bed.
You hurt me.
And you’re not mad. You’re sad.
No longer burning. Raining.

But Wednesday was calmer.
We were green that day.
You apologized.
And that changed everything
So we sat lazily on green grass
Together underneath willow trees.

So Thursday was beautiful.
We were yellow then.
The sun was bright
Its warmth lighting our hearts.
You holding my hand that night,
Underneath yellow stars.

And today we are alive.
We are orange. We are vibrant.
Refreshing, invigorating.
We love intensely today.
Tonight we dance closely.
Two colors smearing together.

And so I don’t know
What tomorrow will be.
Purple, Pink? Please not blue.
But the point is,
We can’t be one color.
You and I, we are the rainbow.
