“ For Our Future”

Oh how it was that the ground did shake
In the fields where we sat in splendour
You, saying words that were ushered in slowly
Given back, given back, given back!
The tortoiseshell and mink restored once more
Erasing all the years spent without you
The tears dripping on a freshly laundered picnic sheet
The wind taking the caution to it’s hiding place
There is now an imprint on the sole of my foot
From where you pressed your own bare to mine
Diffusing and easing the broken shells we have lived in
And warming the world to the ease of us
In the kiss the promise of never falling in to a lull
Never having to say I am sorry in silences
Two mouths met and the clouds did break
The sky opened to an approving sun
And the raindrops turned suddenly in to diamonds
I saluted you, my boy, in your finery
I offered you unconditionally all that is in me
And you did not baulk nor turn away, instead
You selected a flower and took it from the root
Two hours later placing it in my garden
And you promised that as it grew, you would cut
The bloom in the spring, the scent in summer
The beauty of the wilt in the autumn
And you would hold all of that in our winter
