Heartlands

“Heartlands”

Take the provision of the portion of your heart that you gave to me
And set it free over the dusty trails of the American heartlands

I have believed in you and have touched every talisman available
I have chanted prayers and spent hours in crumbling churchyards
There is a justification in my belief that you will always return

I was not looking for the one who I could live with forever
I was looking for the one I could not live without

Stumbling towards the fulfilment of the welcoming open arms

We are lost in the time after the time before we fell in love

Our schedule has not been put to rest and the kiss is lingering
It roams and marauds over this prairie like a dust storm
You let it go and enquire occasionally of its wellbeing

I remember that I could give you gifts free of deception

When we were younger we were old in the wisdom of what we had
